How to Use a Feng Shui Bagua Map in Your Home
There are different schools of Feng Shui, and they do not all orient the Bagua in exactly the same way. Throughout my Coastal Feng Shui series, I use the compass-based Bagua, with each life area connected to a direction: Career in the North, Knowledge in the Northeast, Family in the East, Wealth in the Southeast, Fame in the South, Love and Relationships in the Southwest, Creativity in the West, Helpful People in the Northwest, and Health at the center.
To begin, find the compass directions of your home and lay those nine areas across your floor plan. From there, the Bagua becomes a kind of design map. Each area has traditional associations with elements, colors, shapes, and qualities—but in a coastal home, I like to translate those through the sea and shore. Greens can echo Wood and growth, deep blues can bring in Water, coral and sunset tones can carry Fire, sandy neutrals can ground Earth, and whites or metallic details can express Metal.
The Coastal Bagua keeps the traditional framework, but lets the coast do the storytelling.
